My compliments go mainly to the art and set design of this film. Well done, visually. I'm reluctant to believe that any human would be able to sustain adequate brain function at an altitude of 37,000 feet for more than 5 minutes (maximum)?? without oxygen supply. Then again, I wasn't there so I am not at liberty to say. But we DO know that aircraft have crashed after the depressurization of the cabin at an altitude of 33,000 feet, at which point humans are unlikely to stay COMPLETELY conscious for more than 6 minutes before hypoxia sets in and clouds your basic judgment and bodily functions. Anyway, this was still a Hollywood movie and what do I know?!

Un drama de época, con excelente fotografía y efectos especiales que ayudan a comprender la ciencia meteorológica… Inspirada en hechos reales; combinación entre emoción y nostalgia.

The story seems as one-dimensional as an ascent, followed by a descent, albeit with some stereotypical factors—a past related death, ridicule, doubt, a near-death experience, and triumph. Given that this was based upon a true story, either the story wasn't there originally, or the director took shamefully few liberties. The stomping ground was vast on this sort of movie, e.g. first-to-do-this-or-that, but the story modality was conservative and highly predictable. Acting and cinematography was brilliant and breath-taking. The historical feat was amazing. But without the dimension, complexity, or a wider emotional net cast, the story is more of a documentary or a headline recap than a blockbuster.

This move is the reason I'm not watching any movies "inspired by true events" and with female lead.

Don't let a lot of facts get in the way of a good story..........artistic license is one thing, but this is a little much, I'm sorry. Hard to take seriously. Good for young kids I guess.

A complete lie of the actual history. Such a shame because this is a cool story.

This is quite sentimental but I enjoyed it overall. It's perhaps a little dull at times but the story and the characters intrigued me even if their only very loosely based on fact. There's some lovely cinematography and the period costumes (where they feature - not all the time) are nice. Understandably, there's a fair bit of shaky camerawork, which may frustrate you and Eddie's acting is a little cheesy at times but I liked the themes and the sentiment. It reminded me slightly of 'Around the World in 80 days with Willy Fogg', though its a shame there weren't more scenes showing the balloonists location from the ground - scenes showing the balloon in the sky with little but white clouds to be seen isn't greatly awe inspiring as such, though the thought of being in either balloonists shoes is a somewhat daunting one, right enough. Amelia Wren seemed a pretty admirable character, as a scientist or women explorer of her time. I like that she's rightfully mentioned and complimented towards the end of the film, although I'd have liked it if more info. about the true story were shown on screen just before the credits. Suffice to say, it's by no means perfect but its certainly alright.
