I recently watched the movie 'The Call of the Wild' and overall, I would give it 3.5 stars. The movie has a good story and is heartwarming, but there were a few aspects that could have been improved upon. The story follows the journey of a dog named Buck, who is taken from his comfortable life in California and sent to the harsh and unpredictable world of the Yukon during the Gold Rush. Along the way, he meets a kind-hearted mailman named John Thornton (played by Harrison Ford) and together they embark on a life-changing adventure. One of the highlights of the movie is the message of friendship and loyalty between Buck and John. Their bond is heartwarming to watch and is definitely the heart of the story. The movie also does a great job of showcasing the beauty and danger of the wild, making the audience feel like they are on the journey with Buck. However, my main issue with the movie was the heavy use of CGI. While the animals were well-animated, it was clear that they were not real and at times, it took away from the emotional impact of certain scenes. I would have preferred to see more real-life animal actors, as it would have added a sense of authenticity to the movie. Another criticism I have is the ending. Without giving away any spoilers, I felt that the movie could have ended on a stronger note. The ending felt a bit rushed and didn't fully satisfy me as a viewer. It would have been great to see more closure for the characters and their journey. Overall, 'The Call of the Wild' is a good movie with a heartwarming story, but the heavy use of CGI and a lackluster ending bring it down a bit. I would recommend it for families and animal lovers, but I do believe it could have been better executed.

Given an unfair rating that should be alot higher Imo.. An afternoon wonder not a blockbuster evening movie but fabulously entertaining. Great CGI for a simple heartwarming tale. Very enjoyable.

A film that I really wanted to love but whose excessive special effects spoil everything. Despite all this, it's still good family entertainment, but a real "Buck" would have made it so much more human.

Brilliant film! Absolutely loved it and well worth watching!

Loved the dog Buck (or rather how well the actual actor, Cirque du Soleils Terry Gibb, mimicked a dog and was then overlayed with the CGI), the always sympathetic Omar Sy, the predictable Harrison Ford. Incidentally Buck looks like the big brother of our own dog who is like the same racial mix ;-) A beautiful story with CGI animals but superbly done, great Canadian or Alaskan (Yukon) landscapes, lots of humor, some drama, a bad guy who plays so good you really, really hate him, a storyline with enough changes to keep you interested. But mostly we could identify with... the dog Buck. Which I think is an achievement in itself by the moviemakers. And using a real person gave the (other) actors a tangible co-actor to work with instead of an empty space or blue/green screen, making it all come together perfectly. The story was actually after a novel from the 19th century. It does evoke a lot of much-needed sympathy and esteem for nature and animals, as well as a feel-good.

Listened to the book on tape with the kids on a road trip. Got home to watch the movie and as an adaptation was sadly disappointed. I can see why as the book would easily be rated R. Club fang starvation and abuse is traded for alcoholism and rekindled inspiration. Still a nice story carried by Ford. Remove any expectations from the book and you will watch a watered down G rated dog movie great for the kids and family.
