Having cherished 'The Count of Monte Cristo' since childhood and watched every movie adaptation, I can confidently say this is the weakest version. They introduced unnecessary characters and plotlines that don't exist in the book, and the transitions between scenes are dreadful. Furthermore, the actor portraying the Count lacks the presence and depth required for the role. The adaptation with Gérard Depardieu remains the best portrayal of 'The Count of Monte Cristo.' This version pales in comparison.

I never read the books, but as a movie it was awesome!

Absolutely brilliant film. Watched it twice back to back.

Finally, a version that gives more credit to the book than ever before despite English dubbing over French actors... Cinematography was incredible and I was happy right up to the very end when the writers pulled a John Wick that ruined its 1800s authenticity.

This was a brilliant piece of cinema, perfect translation of a phenomenal book. It was engaging from the start and didn’t let up. It’s a definite one to watch and don’t be put off by the subtitles you will be so engrossed that you will forget all about them

Epic production of a classic story that everyone knows and likes but this film is a lot more authentic than the English version. There isn’t the Hollywood effect. Great cast and acting. Beautiful camera and music. Three hours well spent!

Veery good movie. The story flows seamlessly in a fast pace, and the ending is very reasonable. One thing I like particular is it focuses on people's characters rather than some overly-dramatic actions like many current movies do. Well, the complexity is not comparable to reading the original book, which is more than 1000 pages, for sure.

Nice to see this story get the sprawling epic treatment it deserves. Between this and the two part "Three Musketeers" adaptation, I hope the French continue turning their classics into recent movies.

The film is good. I can't say that it's completely better than the American version with Jim Caviezel. He is less romantic, and more faithful to the book. However, it suffers from a point that the book also suffers from, which is the lack of cadence. Extensive dynamics with little dynamism, in a search for fidelity to the book. Which is good but up to a point. The ending followed this logic, however it still softened the real ending of the book, like the american version, but to a much lesser extent, which is a positive point, but still imperfect. Overall the film is good and worth watching. It's superior to the Hollywood release.
