The Dark and the Wicked
audience Reviews
, 63% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsOne of the best horror flicks in a while. Absolutely loved it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsProbably the best horror movie I have seen since Hereditary. Have not felt that sense of hopelessness, dread and overrall bleakness during a movie in a while. If that is what you are looking for, you found the right movie!
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsI am so sick of audience reviews and people acting like they know movies… you do not. Leave it to the critics if you wanna judge a movie based off scores, audiences can and will never be trusted period !
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsBoring, must be paid hype
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is what I call a horror movie. Made no doubt on a limited budget, it delivers and them some. Although you never really know what has taken place before siblings Michael and Louise go to their parents farm home to say goodbye to their dying father, you instantly know something is amiss. The pace to this horror movie is not fast or slow but chillingly relentless. It reminds me somewhat of the horror movie 'The Witch', where you don't really know what the evil entity attacking them is. Did this evil manifest itself because the family are all atheists? I'm not so sure but I do have a second theory which I am annoyingly going to keep to myself to avoid giving out a spoiler. There's a scene with a care worker which is simply terrifying. The Dark And The Wicked is an example of what a good horror movie should be and I highly recommend it. Worth every digit of its 18 rating.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsFull blown nihilism doesn't really work for horror films like this. Yes an unhappy ending can be acceptable payoff but if we don't also care about the character there is no suspense just a boring death march.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThe Bland and the Tepid. What a boring load of derivative and amateurish drivel.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsnice horror that slowly builds up, good script and acting- enjoy it
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI can't believe I only just came across this movie because I'm always searching for a good or even half decent horror flick. Despite its above average run time, The Dark and the Wicked certainly did not disappoint and kept me engrossed throughout. The director did an excellent job of creating a tense, chilling atmosphere with a looming sense of dread in almost every scene. Unlike many movies of late, this isn't one you can watch while scrolling on your phone because you'll certainly miss unspoken details that are integral to the story, which is refreshingly original although it's simple, seemingly familiar premise might indicate otherwise. I'd say give it a go and continue to look out for more from this director/writer/producer Bryan Bertino.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsMaybe my soul has been rotten for a long time, but this movie was neither scary nor did it have a good story. I was promised "the best horror movie" but instead I sat there, waiting, bored and a little annoyed when it ended and I hadn't even remotely flinched. Certified rotten.
