Tonally approved by Jim Davis on the vocally core essentials, but it remains to beg the question when approaching these types of endeavors under specific gears: Will the original creator ever come to envision such? This Garfield flick nonsensically ridicules, with the enjoyment level being more welcoming than the previous feats despite formulated as your typical family fare. The comedic deliverance is as caring in faithful terms with heartening, ironically shamelessly cheesy appeal to gladly accept this as worthwhile fun. (B)

Chris Pratt was really good in this role the movie didn’t see much like a Garfield movie that I wanted (I am a big Garfeild fan) but it is still a enjoyable movie

I cannot in good conscience give an admirable review of a film that has so graphically unhinged a beloved childhood icon and turned him into a half hearted action hero he was never meant to be. The half baked plot could be fit into any other fandom, from Paw Patrol to Blue’s Clues. There was nothing distinctly Garfield about this movie except of course the orange cat and the lasagna he consumes. Though the vocals my Mr.Pratt were admirable, there’s not much you can do with a plot of this caliber. The producers couldn’t decide between family drama, half thought revenge plots, and a heist that has no depth or meaning other than to fill space. Children will no doubt enjoy this as they have The Lorax (yet another example of actors without script). Would not recommend viewing the movie as an adult, unless your just looking to kill some time and have already exhausted every worthwhile option.

Dull, forgettable, and horribly paced, "The Garfield Movie" does admittedly have its surprisingly good moments, but overall, the absolute mess to get to those few scenes doesn't make the movie worth the watch.

Another future favourite. Watched this multiple times and always has the same wonderful effect. Hannah Waddingham is the perfect villain and Chris Pratt does a good Garfield

Mikey’s Movie Review: The Garfield Movie (2024) Jim Davis’ moody, lazy, sarcastic creation Garfield has been one of the most popular characters for both adults and children alike for almost 50 years. Starting out as a 3 panel newspaper strip, the merchandise alone now earns between $750 million - $1 billion annually! It’s hardly surprising then that Hollywood has tried to cash-in on the success with several animated TV specials and series, 2 live-action/CGI animated features (starring Bill Murry as the voice of the titular cat), plus 3 CGI direct-to-video films. The latest film attempts to take the cantankerous cat (voiced by Chris Pratt) and place him into a OTT Mission Impossible heist situation. That, along with the addition of a hitherto unknown father (Samuel L. Jackson) and the obligitory abandoned kitty / Daddy issues might sound like ‘fun’ on paper but in reality it takes our ‘hero’ out of his own movie and has nothing to do with the character we know and love. Garfield is frequently upstaged by a host of characters none of which really do anything interesting. In fact his loyal side-kick Odie has more to do, finding a role very reminiscent of Gromit (Wallace & Gromit). In fact the look and style of the animation is very Aardmann-esque. As a result it looks great. If only the story had been just as engaging. The fact that the 5 minute pre-amble origin story of how Garfield came to be adopted by Jon (an underused Nicholas Hoult) is better than the 90 minutes that follows, should be a warning to anyone attempting another take in the future. It’s a scene that’s sweeter and more in keeping with the spirit of the original strip than the rest of the movie. A snooty, kaniving minx called Jinx (a dreadful performance from Hannah Waddingham) and fellow Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein as her lacky Roland simply don’t gel. While side storys about a love-sick bull called Otto (Ving Rhames) and another about a security guard called Marge (Cecily Strong bizarrely doing an impression of Frances McDormand’s Marge in Fargo), seem to be taken from another draft… of different films! It’s a sub-par, sugar-coated, hyperactive kids movie with some ridiculous product placement throughout for Walmart and Fed-Ex. You might want to skip this, read the original strips and order in some lasagne instead… Mikey‘s Movie Rating: 2/5*🫤
