One of the strangest and most peculiar motion pictures I've seen in a very long time, I imagine this is going to be a love it or hate it movie - I don't foresee a lot of in-between reactions. It elicited in me feelings I got while watching 1981's MY DINNER WITH ANDRE. Both films center around conversation, in this case at a family's Thanksgiving Day celebration. The vast majority of the movie is a family just talking - talking about the mundane and ordinary things families do, talking about their jobs and gossip about the neighbors, nothing seemingly out of the ordinary. As the conversations continue, however, a growing sense of unrest begins to set in, and the film becomes almost a thriller as strange noises and occurrences take place within the apartment they've convened for the holiday. This was based on a play, and not a lot has been done to open it up for the silver screen, but in a way that works here because it adds to a sense of claustrophobia. The interactions between the characters, collectively and individually, become almost hypnotic after awhile. Performances down the line are great - it's especially interesting watching comic Amy Schumer in a dramatic role. If you're in the mood for something challenging, you might want to give this a shot.

Thankfully, Karam uses this adaptation to expand upon the original play's body horror elements, making more direct comparisons between the decaying building and the decaying bodies of the characters.

Heh, relieved to see that I'm *not* in the _minority_ on not being a "major fan" of this flick - which one might think, given that this ☝🏼 turns up on 'Thanksgiving' movies lists [shock, facepalm], and has high critic numbers. Long gone are the days of taking Siskel & Ebert, or Leonard Malkin's recommendations to the bank, for enjoyability. Just because it's high-critic, doesn't mean it appeals to anyone dwelling outside of major coastal cities... Increasingly, _exactly the inverse_ is a better watchability predictor (when the audience sincerely contrasts with the critics). Dark, slow, anxiety-laden, inscrutable, & distinctly unpleasant. And not a very enjoyable watch... [shrug]

Great, dark comedy for the Holidays! The real life situations displayed by the cast feel smooth due to being relatable & believable. There is an array of issues or stresses everyone goes through in life that the actors sell us viewers on without feeling cheap. The only reason I don't give the movie a 5STAR is due to the genre labeling the film as a horror and not even having Dark Comedy listed at all.

Are the critics trolling with a 92% fresh? this is the worst movie ever. there is nothing, absolutely nothing.

I've never left a review for a film before, but felt like I had to for this one... So wow, what can I say, other then that's 1hr 48minutes of my life I'll never get back and I'll keep this review short as I don't want to waste too much more on it... So never heard of the film before, but was flicking through Netflix to see what was leaving and this film was one that was being deleted... So read the synopsis, checked out the actors and expected a creepy little film with a good calibre of actors. Now the actors are normally fantastic, but with the depressing script they were working with, well even they couldn't make this film worth 1h and 48 minute's of your life... Now that's just my opinion, but if you want to watch a film that just has people droning on about how depressing there lives are and how they've recently messed them up, then this might be the film for you... Sadly, the only creepy thing about this film is that I didn't turn it off after the first 25 minutes, but think that speaks more of my OCD in not being able to leave things unfinished... So sadly a thumbs down from me, and really, unless you like to watch depressing films, then go pick something else, as even the fantastic actors couldn't save this one....

Terrible movie, but great actors. There was no plot. And I do like darker movies with a deeper plot - Parasite is great - this one is just bad.

Rubbish, not funny at all, not scary at all, not edgy, at all. Nothing happens in it. Nothing. A long boring wanabee "witty" family conversation around a table set in a miserable grubby apartment/home (which I assume is meant to be the edgy bit about it?). %100 clechè, painfully dull and predictable topics discussed. Just an utter waste of time and space. So unbelievably bad and dull, you'd have to think this was some kind of money laundering operation for it to have even been made.

Unexpected and not at all like every other American movie. Terrifying with a real difference. Fantastic!
