The Last Showgirl

- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsGreat movie! Its been so long since Ive seen a movie that was more story-focused than action-packed-CGI. The main characters were all great in their roles, and I loved the 16mm film, it really added to the show that we had to see it in some of thw more run-down theaters, and made the film look so great and aged beautifully.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsReally great performances. Could have fleshed out the 4 main characters a bit more. But really a showcase for Pamela Anderson. Worth seeing.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsGood film but somewhat thin story
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsI really enjoyed the movie however it could have been so much better by making it a little longer and expanding the story. Especially with the relationship with her daughter. Pam was great as was Jamie Lee. Jamie's performance was very similar to that episode in The Bear which involved Thanksgiving dinner with the fam dam. She plays that role well. I really enjoyed Dave Bautista's role as well. I was hoping that the daughter would finally find out the truth about her Dad and it's never too late to have a relationship. Overall I enjoyed it but overlooked the flaws because I was rooting for Pam's comeback.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIf you are a woman under 40, writing a review of this film, I'm pretty sure you aren't able to identify with many of the characters; so their lives and emotions might seem quite distant from your experience. I've seen a few reviews that call this script "thin"... Well, there is no crime, violence, gore, sex, car chases or explosions, so maybe that's what they are referring to(?) This film is about life. Mostly about the life of women who've mispent their youth and beauty in a world that glorified them while they were young, but regards them as worthless and discards them as such, once they pass 25. No one, caught up in the happiness and excitement of their heyday, thinks much about how they'll survive once their looks fade and their bodies age. When reality hits like a wave, swift and unavoidable and drags you under, your future is not just bleak, it looks to be unsurvivable. This, is the story. The script and the actors are absolutely pitch-perfect. Whether the characters are proping each other up or tearing each other down, the performances run from comic to tragic and never miss a beat. I can't remember ever seeing something so true to life, not even in a documentary.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsUnfortunately, I expected more of the showgirl on the advertising poster on the stage. However, the film was shot mostly in a dressing room or the showgirls house. For me personally I needed more from the story to care. Great performances by Pam & Jamie Lee Curtis though.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThis definitely was Pamela Anderson's comeback with her finest performance - I cannot think of anyone else who could portray this character, Shelly, who finds out that her Las Vegas review where she has been a fixture is closing after 30 years. You can see the shock, despair and vulnerability on her face when she finds out her career is over in a few weeks. She chose not to wear alot of makeup & I commend her for this. It's a spot on script for our culture which depicts a woman aging out of the system because she is too old for her profession and shows her struggle to get back out there to look for a job. Jamie Lee Curtis did not disappoint with her portrayal of a washed up casino cocktail waitress - the makeup for her character was spot on!! I would definitely recommend this film.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsI get what this film was trying to do, but for me it missed the mark over and over again. Anderson does her very best but she is not a great actress and the whole film was thin and didn't go deep enough. A bit of a wannabe art/independent film.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThis had a great premise with a great cast but some of the camera work could have been a little better
