I totally enjoyed this movie, partially because I have a MA's degree in art history and for the larger part, it is based on a true story. Guy Pearce is an superb actor, convincing in his acting for this role, especially in the end when facing a tough comment made by Captain Joseph to the artist's career. Joseph comments how the artist has wasted all his talents by faking Vermeer, Guy's (the artist) eyes twitch just a second. Oh, how that acting delivers. I can feel how the comment goes through his brain to his soul and makes him self-searching. I went back and watched it again that moment. Yes, it does capture it. Pearce rocks! However, with a degree in art history, not for a moment was I convinced those paintings were by Vermeer. Those close-up faces look awkward and the lighting isn't natural. However, Goring believed it and bought it, lol!

This is a very poorly made film, it screams low budget.

I'm sure this was a great book to read, but it made for a slow first hour of the movie. The second hour was when it all came together and was very entertaining.

An interesting (based on true events) story of which I was unaware. Reasonably well told and a quality production.

I thought this film was going to be slow paced and hard to get through. It was just the opposite, it was at times fun and definitely entertaining.

I watched this because there was nothing else on my cable. WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE! An intelligent, well-acted, witty drama. Yes, it drags in parts, but the suspense and the ending are worth it. Use your fast-forward if you must, but make it to the dramatic (double) ending which reminded me of The Caine Mutiny.

I loved the movie and its main subject, the restitution of stolen art. Not posting a complete review here, just an observation. The painter's book dedicated to the Fuhrer, which turns up at the end and offends his defender, was just one of the painter's ways of hedging his bets with another "fake". He could not be sure the Allies would win in the end. At any rate, it was not found among Hitler's papers. It was found among the painter's messy papers so he never had to offer it. Just another fake....just another survival tool.

Brilliant film held my attention every second. Amazing acting and fascinating story or rather factual account

Guy Pearce is great but everything else about this movie is absolutely awful

Anyone interested in art would have known the story but it was nevertheless entertaining altho I guess they had embellished on the realityof it all. Perhaps 20 minuts too long... but good overall
