The Nightingale
audience Reviews
, 73% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA brutal and unrelenting look at life in the early days of colonial Australia. With some stronger production values, this movie could of been elevated to the highest level of Australian cinematic achievements.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsKent shows her range as a director as this movie has little horror, but great moments. It gets a little bogged-down by its themes to really soar.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA true reenactment of how Australia settled in the early days. Not just indigenous people but how criminals are treated, appalling.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis movie had me hooked from start to finish. So many emotions in every scene. A must see!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsA graphic tale of revenge that hits more marks than it misses.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA wonderful tale of developing understanding of equal humanity between the races that emerges in the battle against a common inhumanity.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsOne of the most terrible films I've ever seen. First 40 minutes of the movie is rape scene after rape scene, literally. Followed by her husband's murder directly after, you guessed it, being forced to watch her getting raped. Then you guessed it again, directly raped more afterward, in front of her dead husband. Continued immediately with the morbid killing her baby because it was crying while her mom is being raped, more. The rest of the movie is an awful revenge plot-line with terrible and campy acting. I felt bad for the lead actress being put into this film. The people praising this film are sick in the head.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThe ending was a bit too long. But overall despite the over violent beginning was quite nice and relevant.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsOmg. So sad and real story. I researched a lot about this peace of history and the movie and characters convinced me that this was a story that needed to be told.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA movie limited story telling done in the form of an epic. The main character goes through quite and arc that is painful at times to watch but is fulfilling. Scenes in the movie are brutal and heartbreaking and certainly not going to be for everyone, but the raw emotion that is brought to the screen will stick with you.
