Russell Crowe plays Father Gabriele Amorth, chief exorcist for the Vatican The film is based on the true files of this priest's practices from director Julius Avery Back in June 1987 he visits an Italian village to vanquish a demon A girl dies in the middle of the street because of his actions and Amorth is then reprimanded by his superiors not approving the exorcism by the Church tribunals He believes evil truly exists and when visiting the Pope he's assigned to help a young boy in Spain along with his mother and sister moving into a new house The boy is possessed by a demon and only wants the priest Amorth himself testing his will if he can save him There also might be a startling connection between this possession and the church itself This was definitely worth the wait Trauma can be a gateway for possession, suffering can become evil's strength, our sins can be forgiven but we must forgive ourselves too, to die in a war is heroic but to survive is complex The film comes in and does a serviceable job The best stuff with this demon's powers only happens at the very end Crowe isn't bad here either and the tragedies in his life add to the experience as a priest Yet this could've stood out a bit more Depth or authenticity isn't the movie's strong suit but it is a watchable religious horror entry but you'll forget about it afterwards

When Russell Crowe came on the scene, bingo! He looked stronger than any exorcist I've ever seen in a movie or drama. I would feel comfortable letting him take over my body, even if the demons had taken over my body. This story is based on the experience of a real-life Vatican exorcist, FatherGabriele Amorth. Or rather, I was surprised that an exorcist really exists in the Vatican. Russell on his Vespa is unusually cute. Living in Japan, the existence of demons is not realistic, but Russell's cuteness and the pity of his partner, Father Thomas, won sympathy votes, and the film became a hit in Japan. The horror level is not so high, so even those who are scared can enjoy this horror-entertainment!

The movie was the perfect amount of creepy, religious, and action badassery! I truly believe that this is Russel's biggest contender against his role in Gladiator. Franco's portrayal of the pope was small but impactful it did not give off a vibe of he is god but the vibe of he is a wise member of the church who is willing to delve into the dark to bring it to light. Russel's character was awesome in every sense of the word. His character is damaged and holds a heavy cross and burden of memories from war that made this Vet a little tight in the chest. I am not Catholic but this film doesn't beat you over the head with catholic teachings it's just epic and the portrayal of the demon was done amazingly creepy and given a good call back to the Exorcist at times and I really enjoyed that! The twist later after the discovery at the Church and not sugar coating it and the horror of what that group did and the condemnation of it and the twist about it being caused by a demon was done to perfection.

The Pope's Exorcist may not break new ground, but it entertains by blending humour and horror, with Russell Crowe's eccentric performance serving as its central anchor.

If you know much about real exorcisms by the Catholic Church, the real Father Amorth, the seal of Pope Benedict i think he uses and other things then unfortunately it's not scary. No Demon would be tricked into going into a pig…they are highly intelligent. They are fallen angels after all. The medallion he uses he holds upside down…i have it on my phone. The exorcists that knew him in real life chose not to endorse the movie. They all loved Nefarious…i highly recommend it. I like fact based to scare me. I am a Christian so thats why Demons scare me. If you're right with God then you should respect the Devil's power; but not fear it because Jesus is totally in control. Father Amorth was a great man. And he did make those funny faces he does in the movie. He had Jesus so he had no fear.

I come to write this review after i've seen Russell Crowe has been nominated in the worst actor category at the Razzie Awards. I humbly disagree. I think Crow deliver a solid performace in a classic horror b movie. Is this the best movie ever made? No. Does it have a solid technical/fx department and is it faithful to the themes of the genre? Yes. I reccomend the vision to all the horror/splatter/possesion genre and Russel fans without the expetation to assist a masterpiece.
