Moving. Very sad. Beautiful. Nobody mentioned the camera work. Absolutely amazing, very dynamic.

To date, this is my personal favorite movie. It’s almost too good, Mads Mikkelson top tier performance, it’s like a stew of perseverance, hardship, sacrifice, determination, anger, and at the bottom of the bowl you find out what really matters.

“Great Movie”. Mads says more with a stare than most actors can express with the best written dialogue.

This film ranks as one of the finest movies I've ever seen. Wonderfully filmed, moving storyline and great acting. I found the subtitles much better than horribly dubbed english which I always find distracting. If you're a fan of great movie making and storytelling, this is a must watch.

The Promised Land is an epic drama, bold and sweeping. It's about struggle, competition and revenge. It's fierce and hard and very impressive. Set in Denmark in 1755, we follow Captain Ludwig Kahlen who has just retired after 25 years of army service. He has a small pension, but dreams of more. He receives permission from the Royal Danish Court to try and cultivate land on the barren Jutland moors. If he succeeds he will be granted a title and a manor. From day one it's a huge struggle. He gains some help but life is hard. It's made harder by an awful nearby wealthy landowner who seeks to make Kahlen's life even harder. His greatest allies are escaped serfs Johannes and Ann Barbara. He also briefly gains the help of travellers in the area. But life is a constant struggle, not just on the inhospitable land, but with the powers in the area trying to keep him down. This film is fierce and at times despairing, but Kahlen offers a glimmer of hope that he will succeed. Mads Mikkelsen is superb as usual as Kahlen. He expresses all sides of the human condition in a film that is tough and unyielding and at times exhilarating.

My god, what a rollercoaster of emotions this movie drags you through. An epic. I loved it. 3/4 of the way through the movie , I'd even forgotten that it was subtitled, that's how enthralling I found it. All actors across the board played their roles to a tee

Mads, as always gives a fantastic performance as a determined somewhat stoic man trying to not let anything or anyone in his way. Circumstances make him make decisions that generate outcomes that are violent and to the audience quite emotional. Anything that Mads does in film and tv always makes me praise and admire from afar. He never disappoints. This film if you can bare the cruelty and injustices is a must see. Not for the faint hearted.

Film definitely worth seeing! ! All the actors are fabulous, out of the world. Scenery, costumes totally worth looking as well. The heath is portrayed as a character on its own which is very interesting. However, the film is a tad too long and we are seeing too many close-ups of Mads Mikkelsen staring somewhere or somebody, even if his eyes are to die for. The ending is also ambigous and overly hollywood-sentimental.
