I thought it was a fun yarn. My friend said it didn't have enough depth of characters, but comedies are usually a bit superficial. He didn't agree that it was a necessarily a comedy, but I laughed quite a bit. He seemed to think it was a more serious movie.I also enjoyed the plot twists.

Cage gets called out of retirement when his daughter and granddaughter get cross ways with the mob. Cheese fest with terrible acting from all the villains.

The movie is internationally campy, and really is more of a spoof with a few serious scenes in it. I promise you’ll not forget this movie.

Bad on so many levels. I have no idea who this is made for, it features a kid but it’s rated-R...a kid who talks too much and is smarter and wiser than every adult is, naturally, annoying. Not to sound like a monster, but this works better without the kid and instead with more of a focus on the father/daughter dynamic. The high boss ‘behind the scenes’ who was introduced too soon is overkill and just laughable as a real threat (where’d the boss get his suit, Walmart?) Things just dragged from the point of introduction because you know nothing is going to matter until that boss reveals it’s final form... all it did was take focus from everything else because why would that keep the viewer focused and involved? It’s biggest fault is that it goes the extra mile to introduce all of these characters and subplots and fails miserably at bringing it all together in an end that justifies the means.

Let's get this out of the way first, if you're a Nic Cage fan, you should enjoy this movie quite a but. But even if you're one of those folks who like him sometimes and don't know what to do with him the other times, well...you should still enjoy this movie. By no means is this a perfect movie, and yes, the plot is a bit over-the-top, but then again, who watches action movies for their realism? We want hyperbolic action, one-liners and likeable characters we can root for. The cast in this one is fantastic, a monster line-up of character actors, and familiar faces. The child actress playing the granddaughter does an admirable job as well, and despite it all, there are a few surprises and plot twists that work out well enough. Plus, kudos for a film where the hero is a senior citizen/retiree and not the usual 20 or 30-something. I enjoyed that aspect of the film immensely. All in all, a well-made actioner and a damned entertaining one at that.

so-so. On the upside, it has a pretty decent veteran cast led by Nick Cage. On the down side, the script was just stupid. I kept yelling at the screen for the bad guys to just SHOOT already and get it over with. Now you could forgive an out and out comedy, but this thing takes itself too seriously for a comedy. Instead it seems to be going for a stylish gangland film like Bullet Train or some guy ritchie garbage, and does neither very well.
