The Song of Names

, 90% Audience Score- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThis 3as a captivating movie until the last ten minutes. Then we find that Dovidl betrayed Martin by sleeping with Helen. Martin, whom undertakes an epic search to find his bother us the real sucker here. Seems like it was tacked on. Can't recommend.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThe movie clearly makes an effort to avoid cheap sentimentality, because the historical background here is painful enough. The actors, likewise avoid that too. I think critics simply did not understand the size of the tragedy they see on screen as the unbearable pain of the Holocaust spills and tarnishes everything around it. I really liked nthe movie and understand the choice the director made to be a bit drier. I believe that it was the right one.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsWhat at least gives flavor to this drama is the music. The story lacked something for the viewer to immerse in it and the performances are wasted, especially Tim Roth.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWell adapted from the excellent book. Moving back and forth between past and present, the film slowly revealing it's soul. (The violin playing is superb.) Wonderful cast for each different age, time portrayed. Gentle, beautiful and heartbreaking.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsEmotional mix of stunning violing pieces, Holocaust, friendship, mystery (where is David?). Critics hated it, the audience - like I - loved it!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsIt's one of those movies that "critics" like to dislike. For rest of us plebs, at least for me, I liked it. Perhaps there aren't many twists and turns but it isn't the plot that I was going for, it's the pain and melancholy that are so poetically and beautifully played. This movie certainly doesn't deserve the abysmal ratings given by critics.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsexcelent film, especially the beginning is superb. Don't expect a big happy end.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsDecent. The story is somewhat thematically dark, but not too much. An interesting story told well.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsHauntingly beautiful and deeply moving.
