- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsJust watched it and have to say it was the worst movie I’ve ever watched the actors who I’ve watched before and enjoyed very much were awful in this the script was terrible and the special effects were terrible too it was almost like watching something that was made back in the 80s but not as good as most movies made in that era are classic movies now I don’t think this will be one of those movies
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsEntertaining, shocking from start to finish! Over the top as it went on, but I couldn’t stop watching.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsAwful movie don’t know whether it’s porn or horror. Whoever made this movie must be on something
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI loved The Substance for its audacity, confrontational nature, indelible performances and wicked sense of humor. It's an unforgettably wild ride of excess. Recommended. https://detroitcineaste.net/2024/10/03/the-substance/
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsSimply. Fucking. Incredible. Mulholland Drive meets Videodrome. I cant imagine how much digital ink has already been spilled about what this movie says about beauty, aging, self love, self hatred and our use of chemicals to prop up the house of cards. The best needle drop (s), literally, since Pulp Fiction? I was squeamish inside and out. Put this movie in my veins! Long live the New Flesh!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe Substance is a masterpiece - saturated in a powerful visual and aural landscape, offering a chartreuse-hued deal with the Devil, powerful acting performances from our two lead female characters and one hell of a Conductor of this Faustian ferris wheel. If you love artsy, sexy, yet intelligent horror films that permeate your brain and linger long after the end credits, this one's for you. Coralie Fargeat is a master filmmaker and lover of all things horror. Beautifully shot, with incredible practical effects and makeup, and Oscar-worthy sound design, this experience will truly change your life. I can't wait to see what her third film will be.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsEnjoyed it but I was mad with the ending like...you cannot pull such a beautiful piece from start to the crux and drop the entire ball with the ending! I literally wanted to cry because wow there's no way
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsWell cast with extravagant efforts by Quaid and Moore. While the messaging about superficiality of Hollywood or mainstream media may be a new line of investigation much of this film was reminiscent of envelope pushing direction we have seen from Kubrick, Lynch or Cronenberg. It’s disturbing and distorting of one’s ordinary expectations to capture one’s interest to a point of being arresting at times. One is left with a sense of seeing something both good and different for a change.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsDemi looked great. The old age makeup was great. The movie was horrible.
