Thank you Director Guo Fan for producing such a good science fiction movie with a very limited budget.

The concept is very cool (same source material author as the Three Body Problem). The tone though is a bit silly. I think it's probably part of a Chinese cultural comedic style that I don't get -- a sort of slapstick over-the-top exaggeration -- much like there is a certain Japanese style of drama found in anime that doesn't totally resonate with me... but I watch with enjoyment nonetheless. The CGI is great and the action is high energy. It's an enjoyable way to spend a couple hours if you are a sci-fi fan.

How ridiculous impossible the whole fantasy off it is, this movie turns out to be actually a thrilling adventure. Saving the earth from an external threat like the sun is actually contradictory to what it really is, life on earth depends on the sun and the threat comes from greed on this planet. To be united against greed would be more desirable nowadays. But morality aside, this movie is worth the watch.

I watched it 5 times. Each time it makes it a more entertaining and more interesting. If you don't have the life experience of Chinese heroism and or trained in Chinese mythology, you might have difficulty to savour the subtleties of the narrative. By the way, I am M.A. in Chinese studies and well versed in traditional Chinese literature and ancient archive.

This movie was filled with incredible special effects: but not much else. It was much too long and the premise itself was flawed by basic physics.

I liked the concept of having to relocate our planet to another solar system, but there's a lot of unanswered questions. Like who got the calculations so wrong that the Earth was going to crash into Jupiter. Really? We can fly a probe over the surface of Pluto so manoeuvring a planet not too close to Jupiter should be a breeze. The movie felt like it was filmed too close to the action all the time, and there were always rocks falling down on them. The English dubbing felt like Monkey Magic. I got sick of "help me" by the end of it. The timing of all the rescue crews turning up at the same time near the end was laughable. Overall it was confusing.

A great non-Hollywood work, when you are tired of the white-guy-save-the-world-theme.
