The movie looks great, obviously money has been spent on camera, props and location. It is kind of sad to see there was potential. Unfortunately the story is flat. No depth in the characters as hard as they try. The biggest mistake is that this film is trying to be funny, but at the same time it is brutal. A Nazi kills a Baby in an evil cold and brutal way, in the next scene it is trying to be funny again. There is no smart transition between the plots. I just don't buy it. The story has deeply distubing moments, in the next its superficial like a Bud Spencer and Terence Hill Movie. Nothing against those, but they are not trying to be anything else. The Editing is bad because it sometimes drags Scenes and close ups for too long while in others it cuts too fast. I don't want to blame the actors, but sometimes the acting seems overacted like in the theatre, but mostly they are in the confined space in an uboat and the camera is close. A subtle acting should be in place. We got the first row in front of the screen. The storyline in general doesn't seem believable. A guy pierced in the stomach by a bolt leaves the sub submerged at 200m. I mean the pressure nearly destroys the boat, but this guy without a pressurization process, no diving gear leaves the sub via torpedo shaft. Dives 40m, holds his breath with a deadly stomach wound while diving through a damaged fi)ed up boat and removes a thick steel tube......shortly after he gives first aid to a dead person, successfully revives this one and after he dies of the stomach wound...I hate to spoil things, but there is so much more going on thats just bad. The ending of this movie must be the worst of the whole thing. You think it builds towards something and then? I am still stunned that I watched the whole thing.

As a submarine veteran, I can say this is absolutely the worst submarine movie I've ever seen.TOTALLY unrealistic, You can't run diesel engines underwater; you cant surface the boat with two compartments flooded and a gaping hole in the hull; one man cannot lift a torpedo; salt water in the battery compartment and arcing batteries would be the end,; you don't get rid of the gas by opening a hatch(!); A submarine crew cannot be trained to do anything in a week except take a crap. There's lots more bs in this very poor movie.

This is a Belgian film (extremely poorly dubbed into english) with AAA production values but a screenplay out of 1950s propaganda film overflowing with melodrama (with a dash of more melodrama). It is supposedly based on a true story but not one I can find ANY proof of or believe even for a moment. But despite its numerous faults...the set pieces work if you can roll with a Flemish "Micheal Bay-style" dubbed 1950s submarine film. (3 stars out of 5).

Overall, this Belgian movie was not bad, but, sometimes, it looked like it was poorly dubbed into English. I think the film should have taken on a more serious tone. The music was good, but distracting because it was "too happy" for the film's subject matter. The story and action were excellent, though.

The weak points were the captioning which had occasional mis spellings, but beyond that I liked it enough to watch it twice. The acting was good and the affects were also very well done.

A mix of modern and time period that left you lost half the time due to no sub titles. Disappointed

Entertaining war movie. Wasn't sure what to expect going in, ended up loving the dark humor.
