The Blonde One

Although deliberately paced and a bit repetitive, the movie contains many lovely subtleties and two superb, swoony lead turns that keep us invested.

Poignant, erotic, and quietly powerful.... Marco Berger masterfully captures the heightened sexual tension between two men in a film that is both exquisite and excruciating.

There are times when the film suffers a little from Inactivity Syndrome, but there is so much tension (both sexual and dramatic) between the pair that you can forgive it sometimes dragging its feet.

The script doesn't break much narrative ground, but the two leads have such screen presence that we find ourselves engrossed.

This may not be a film that advertises itself as important, in short, but its sensitivity and perceptiveness will leave a lasting impression.

Can you have it both ways?

Differentiating this tale of 2 guys searching for completeness within each other-besides its several unexpected twists and its Argentinian take on homophobia-is the stellar acting by Re, and Barón, plus the finesse of the production.

It's an involving, moving exploration of the nature of relationships, transcending the homoerotic set-up to explore deeper human emotions and larger societal issues.

This is a beautifully crafted film with superb central performances, especially from [Gaston] Re.
