This movie was confusing. I'm not entirely sure I enjoyed it. However, with that said, I must admit that I could not stop thinking about it when it was over. The ending had left me with a really unsettling feeling. Viena and the Fantomes leans into a phycological horror/drama genre versus straight up drama or romance. This is not a romantic film in the general sense. With a visual appealing vibe and a really strong cast I believe the downfall was the story editing, which seemed off and lack luster. The character relationships were hard to keep track of and the reactions between some of the characters were confusing at times. The intensity of a supposed love triangle was really lost until the end of the film and there was not enough of a build up to justify reactions from the characters perspectives.

The film was shot more like a music video (which I believe was the director's previous forte) than an actual feature. In most scenes, the lighting was too bright and the camera out of focus. I believe the filmmaker's intention was to provide a look into the alternative punk movement of the 1980s and show the lifestyles of the roadies who followed the bands, but unfortunately, he failed miserably. This film has a very esoteric feel and only consists of deep character plots, without showcasing any of the music from that time period; all sex, but no rock n' roll. It's hard to believe that with a cast this strong, no one would put up a decent
