Werewolves Within

It's a film that wants to please and to some extent succeeds in doing so, without ever being very funny or very alarming.

Starring a delightful Sam Richardson, at its best Werewolves Within feels like a cross between the 1987 vampire film The Lost Boys and the 2002 and 2004 live-action Scooby-Doo films.

This goofy horror comedy, based on an online game of the same name, just goes to prove that if you have a great cast, smart direction and witty script you can just about get away with murder.

Werewolves Within is fun without ever rising to frightening or frightfully funny.

A new comedy classic whodunnit in the honored tradition of Clue, Werewolves Within finds the laughs in the jump scare, and brings back the uproarious joy of the "it's behind you!" creeping fright.

She's equal parts angel and devil, and as the counterpoint to Richardson's plucky go-get-'em do-gooder, Vayntrub is a bedeviling ingénue who's the ideal yin to his yang.

The emphasis is on wry comedy rather than visceral terror, but the twists and turns keep coming and the ensemble cast delivers the gallows humour with deadpan aplomb.

It was a delightful movie. I don't know another word to describe it. It was the perfect palate cleanser after what's been happening in life, in the world, and in film.

Though horror fans (myself included) often have a taste for bleak nihilism, it’s refreshing to see a genre film embrace the radical idea that being a genuinely good person is a worthy life’s purpose.

fangtastically good fun... an entertaining lycan-throwback to 80s genre cinema and a murder mystery with real bite.
