Sucked and a waste of time! There is no pay off at the end, as someone claimed. Stupid ending and that is 1.5 hours of my life that I'll never get back! Good grief!

If I had a rotten tomato or just about anything at the time of watching I would have thrown it at this movie. It could of had potential but this train wreck got worse at it hurtled along, I stick in there to the end but was glad it was over, if not annoyed by the wasted time.

This is not a real review, it should be taken more as a collection of impressions on the film. Wow, where to start, well certainly from saying that the film is a total waste because it could have been a very banal thriller and it would have been negative but not too much and instead it dares more wanting to become much more classic horror and less psychological thriller with a twist of the plot right towards the end which radically changes the film making it no longer banal but really bad, this unexpected change of direction succeeds in the arduous task of making this thriller worse which otherwise would have been simply banal but acceptable but instead it is really terrible in this way.

Well, if their intent was to make ever inch of my body contort with creepiness vibes — they were successful! The horror component of this film is definitely more the psychological. It taps into those primal fears that most of us ladies don't like to think about, being sexually targeted by a man we are suppose to be able to trust. He's like the male version of siren, so beautiful and is leading us to our death. (Spoiler alert) That shower scene was probably one of the most uncomfortable scenes I've EVER witnessed in a film, which was preceded by a scene on a boat that I —omgeee —I don't even want to think about. I audibly gasped. Umm, John licks something, that I've NEVER seen in cinema. Then there's that ending. WHAT?! That's all I get? What happens? I. Need. More. I then went looking for answers, and I read this Q&A with the director. He said , "the final scene was one of the earliest shots in my head. For me it answers the who, what, where, and why of our mystery. Part of the why, for instance, is distinguished by a physical trait shared by all the subjects in the shot." Then I watched the film again — and this movie is really nuanced. Once you see that detail and a few others you finally get what John is doing, and where Libby is headed. I'll let you see it for yourself. It's a little M.Night Shyamalan-esque Overall, great acting and a visually beautiful film. Ahhhh — Give me a sequel!!

What Lies Below is a fun and eerie film that has a great payoff at the end. Soothing story, great ending, shot well. The story doesn't sink. Would definitely recommend.

This is absolutely the most disturbing movie I have ever seen. And not in a good way. If the directors were aiming to disturb and scar their audience, they succeeded. The story line is easy to look over due to the disturbing and grotesque nature of the stepfather, who they went way too overboard with to make creepy. A movie about mermaids? I'd rather watch my dog chase her tail.
