Tom Clancy's Without Remorse

The good news is that "Without Remorse" is pretty great when it comes to the action, and there is a lot of it.

It made me think, I should just be playing the video game...boring, boring, boring.

While it's no Hunt for Red October, this stripped-down, unapologetically retro thriller still gets the job done.

The film doesn't reinvent the wheel when it comes to action thrillers. But where it does succeed is presenting a character that is entirely different from either Harrison Ford's or John Krasinski's Jack Ryan, which exist in the same Tom Clancy Universe.

Without Remorse is sleek, formulaic spectacle anchored by a charismatic, durable hero.

Amid a multitude of sins committed by the aggressively unimpactful Without Remorse, underusing Colman Domingo might be the most unforgivable.

Without Remorse follows a compelling protagonist in a path of revenge through suspenseful, intense action sequences triggered by the usual cliches and storytelling formulas of the genre. Michael B. Jordan is the star of the show.

Jordan sells it all with intensity and ferocity to spare. He leaves us wanting more which is a good thing considering the mid-credits scene we get.

Nearly everything about this film lands right in the middle. The action isn't bad, as much as it's just fine. The story isn't necessarily poor either&#59; it's just mediocre.
