Y2K

It is, at best, ironically stupid, in the Ed Wood Jr vein. But ironically stupid remains, for the rest of the film’s agonisingly unfunny and unscary running time, stupid.

It’s not a bad movie, and it lives up to the standards that it sets itself, but it is as throwaway as a killer Tamagotchi.

Light on laughs, and even lighter on drama, Kyle Mooney’s throwback high-school romcom/tech-horror shifts uneasily between its various modes and tones, but never finds its groove.

…sharing an ‘equal rights for robots’ theme as last week’s The Electric State, Y2K is a far better robots vs people movie...much like the night it’s named after, Y2K is a lot of lightweight fun, and lightweight fun is what most movies aren’t these days…

The deets of the narrative are janky and most of the peeps are rather unlikeable in this horror comedy about Y2K which feels like Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive with a Bodies Bodies Bodies facelift.
