Catherine Martin

Ever since she trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, costume and production designer Catherine Martin forged a lasting professional - and eventually romantic - relationship with stage and film director Baz Luhrmann. In fact, Martin worked almost exclusively with her Australian husband on most of his stage and feature projects, including theatre productions of "Lake Lost" (1988) and "La Boheme" (1990). Both Martin and Luhrmann made their feature debuts with "Strictly Ballroom" (1993), an adaptation of the director's stage play that launched his career while earning her considerable acclaim and award recognition. But it was her Oscar-winning work on Luhrmann's acclaimed avant-garde musical "Moulin Rouge" (2002) that earned Martin the most accolades and solidified her reputation as one of the top costume and production designers working in the business.
