Tim Hecker

Montreal-based Tim Hecker was a celebrated ambient musician and sound artist who made his initial breakthrough as Jetone in 2000. He then moved past the moniker and recorded six critically acclaimed albums under his own name. His music may fall under the "ambient" umbrella but it hardly fades into the background. Hecker's compositions explore the intersections between noise, clamor, melody and musical abstraction. Designed to affect the mind and body in equal measure, Hecker's musical work was commissioned for a range of projects from contemporary dance scores to sound-art installations. While he established himself internationally as a DJ and producer since 1996, his solo work, including Harmony in Ultraviolet (2006) and Virgins (2013), was more personal and served as musical touchstones for the entire genre.
